Sonny Rollins, Vol. 2, recorded for Blue Note, is a timeless session and a milestone in jazz history that gathered together some of the founding fathers of the post-bop era. Joining Rollins are Jazz Messengers Art Blakey on drums and Horace Silver on piano, Miles Davis ' favorite bassist Paul Chambers, the quintessential trombonist J.J. Johnson, and even Thelonious Monk himself.8/

The album ends very gently with an amazing version of "Poor Butterfly" which once again showcases Sonny's sensitive side. This definitely qualifies as one of the best albums of both Sonny's career and Blue Note in general, so if you're a fan of "Saxophone Colossus" or other Sonny albums, or just a casual fan of jazz, then "Volume Two" is right /5(30).

Volume 2 Sonny Rollins Format: Audio CD. Sure these are reissued from digital files, but for the price, I was not expecting audiophile quality. I do, however, expect a flat press and a relatively quiet vinyl. Most of the Blue Note reissues are warped and noisy. This is yet another great Sonny Rollins album. Top it off with Jay Jay /5(36).
