This incredibly light, fun, and surprisingly hip two-CD collection from Blue Note uses the term "smooth jazz" in an unexpected way. Rather than referring to the genre, "smooth" refers to the temperament and feel of these sometimes funky/sometimes poppy tracks that are selected from six decades of jazz.7/

Considering this album came from Blue Note I was expecting a great album and what I got was an album that had me feeling blue. This selection does not blend well. There are some high spots but with as many songs you would expect more. I personally like to buy compilation albums because of the variety that you can only find on these type cd's/5(20).

If you want an introduction to REAL jazz (not the smooth jazz off shoot), or if you've been around jazz all of your life (and know real jazz when you hear it!), you can't go wrong with this best of Blue Note release!
